We write and publish books that look and feel a lot like our website...
Books about the things that make Buffalo... Buffalo.

2011's Irv! Buffalo's Anchorman: The Irv, Rick, and Tom Story, by Steve Cichon, is the second book published by Buffalo based start-up Staffannouncer.com. Its widely acclaimed first book, 2009's The Complete History of Parkside, also by Cichon, remains one of the top selling local books in Western New York.

"We hope to add at least one more local title over the next year, and several more over the next five years," says Cichon, who also wears the hat of publisher. The next step he hopes to take is to branch out to publish books celebrating Buffalo's pop culture history written by other authors.

"We'd like to publish books that feel a lot like the website," says Cichon, "about the things that make Buffalo-- Buffalo."

Staffannnouncer.com went online in 2003 with the goal of helping people remember the way things once were in Western New York, but doing so with a forward outlook; remembering the past with an eye on the future.

Irv! Buffalo's Anchorman
The Irv, Rick and Tom Story

A story of a TV anchorman so universally loved in Western New York that only one name is necessary. From the 1950s through the 1990s, Irv Weinstein informed and entertained generations of Buffalonians with his unmistakable style of writing and delivering the news. Together with Rick Azar and Tom Jolls, Irv was a part of the longest running anchor team in history, and their story is the story of Buffalo over the last half century.

The interesting and disparate stories of each of their lives before the Eyewitness News desk, and the dozens of good breaks, bad breaks, dreams fufilled and dreams shattered that coalesced with the formation of the longest running anchor team in history creates a story that is uniquely Western New York.

A reporter for WBEN Radio in Buffalo, author Steve Cichon is also one of Buffalo's preeminent pop culture historians. His expertise has been tapped by PBS and the National Trust for Historic Preservation, but don't get the wrong impression. This book is as fun and breezy as were the great newscasts of Irv, Rick, and Tom in Eyewitness News' heyday.

"These three guys were a big part of my life, just like plenty of other Western New Yorkers," says Cichon. "But, I was also inspired to a life in a newsroom by the way Irv, Rick, and Tom imparted knowledge and humanity with every newscast."

The Complete History of Parkside

A history of the Frederick Law Olmsted designed neighborhood, from its place in the history of the Seneca Nation, to its role in the War of 1812, to Olmsted's design and the turn of the century building out of the area, and the neighborhood's 20th century evolutions. Included are discussions of the area's earliest colorful settlers, Frank Lloyd Wright's Darwin Martin House, Delaware Park, The Buffalo Zoo, and the stories and anecdotes of many more struggles, individuals, and institutions that have made Parkside one of Buffalo's premier historic neighborhoods today.

Questions You'll Have Answered as You Read:

Where is Parkside's mass virtually unmarked grave?

How did a Parkside quest for riches turn to... naked women?!?

Why did the FBI have Parkside staked out for most of a decade?

You'll also learn details on how America's first jet plane was built in Parkside, and the scandal with Parkside roots that nearly brought down a Presidency.

Written by Buffalo radio reporter and Parkside Historian Steve Cichon in 2009, the book remains a perennial top seller among books targeted to a Western New York audience.
